Refusing to Rush: The Healing Power of Slowing Down

In a world that glorifies busyness, rushing has become a way of life. We measure productivity by how much we can accomplish in the shortest amount of time. But have you ever noticed that Jesus never rushed? Not once do we see Him hurrying through His ministry, multitasking miracles, or stressing about time. Instead, He moved with intention, fully present in every moment.
The Delusion of Rushing & Multitasking
Rushing and multitasking give the illusion of efficiency, but in reality, they fragment our attention, increase stress, and keep us disconnected from God’s peace. Science backs this up—our brains aren’t designed to multitask effectively. Instead, we experience nervous system dysregulation, constantly operating in fight-or-flight mode, leading to burnout, anxiety, and even physical health issues.
The 6 R’s of Healing from the Need to Rush
1️⃣ Root Cause Resolution – Why do we feel the need to rush? Is it fear of falling behind? A deep-seated belief that we must earn our worth? Identifying the root allows true healing to begin.
2️⃣ Reset – Just as a computer needs a reboot when overloaded, our minds and bodies need a reset. This means intentionally slowing down, practicing mindfulness, and prioritizing presence over productivity.
3️⃣ Rest – God commands rest for a reason. True rest isn’t just physical; it’s emotional, spiritual, and mental. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray (Luke 5:16), showing us that rest is a requirement, not a reward.
4️⃣ Rewire Neural Pathways – When we habitually rush, our brains create pathways that make it our default mode. But through intentional practice—like deep breathing, gratitude, and single-tasking—we can rewire our minds to operate from peace rather than panic.
5️⃣ Revival – Slowing down makes room for God’s presence. When we stop striving and start abiding, we experience a spiritual revival. We begin to hear His voice more clearly, feel His peace more deeply, and trust His timing more fully.
6️⃣ Restoration – When we surrender the rush, God restores what stress has stolen—our health, our joy, our relationships, and our faith. True healing happens when we align with His rhythm rather than the world’s demands.
A Call to Slow Down
If Jesus, the Savior of the world, never rushed—why do we? The more we chase after speed, the more we miss the depth of life God intends for us. Let’s commit to refusing to rush, embracing rest, and trusting that God’s timing is always perfect.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
