Parenting With Intent to Connect and Nurture Their Relationship with the Lord

As a parent, connecting with your children and teaching them about God's love can be a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience. Here are some of the best ways to connect with your children and teach them about God's love:

1. Spend quality time with your children

One of the best ways to connect with your children is by spending quality time with them. Whether it's going for a walk, playing games, or simply sitting and talking, spending time together strengthens your relationship and provides opportunities to talk about your faith and God's love.

  • Be Present.

    • I have always referred to it as "in your face time"

  • Listen until they get it out. Ask questions before you advise.

  • Connect with them on what’s important to them-whether a sport, a hobby, a topic, etc.

  • Create or look online for a list of questions that encourage your children to open up their hearts.

    • Some examples may include:

      • What is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

      • What would be your dream job and why?

      • What is your most special memory?

      • What makes you feel loved?

      • What question would you like to ask God?

      • If you could have lunch with any person in history, who would it be and why?

      • What question would you like me to ask you?

2. Pray with and for your children

Praying together as a family is a powerful way to connect with each other and God. Praying for your children helps to reinforce God's love and the importance of faith in their lives. It’s important for them to see that you run to and are dependent on the Lord.

3. Read the Bible together

Reading the Bible with your children is an excellent way to teach them about God's love and to inspire meaningful conversations about faith. You can use storybook Bibles for younger children and gradually move to more complex and detailed readings as they grow older. There’s nothing better to read to your children than the healing and transforming Word of God.

4. Attend church together

Attending church services together as a family helps to reinforce your children's faith and strengthens your own connection with God. Encourage your children to participate actively in church activities and programs to help them deepen their faith and connection with God.

5. Practice kindness and forgiveness

Teaching your children to be kind and forgiving towards others is a powerful lesson that can help them develop strong relationships and a deeper understanding of God's love. As a family, practice forgiving each other when things go wrong and show kindness through small acts of service and charity.

In conclusion, connecting with your children and teaching them about God's love can be a beautiful and life-changing experience. By spending quality time, praying together, reading the Bible, attending church, and practicing kindness and forgiveness, you can help guide your children towards a deeper understanding of faith and a stronger relationship with God.
