October 1st marked the first day of Domestic Violence Awareness Month—a time to shine light on the silent suffering so many endure, and to stand united for hope, healing, and change.
📊 Did You Know?
1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime.
Every minute, nearly 20 people in the U.S. are physically abused by an intimate partner.
Domestic violence is not only physical—it can be emotional, verbal, financial, sexual, or spiritual abuse.
⚠️ Common Signs of Abuse:
Isolation from friends and family
Constant criticism, belittling, or threats
Controlling finances or major life decisions
Physical harm or threats of harm
Gaslighting, manipulation, and blame-shifting
👉 Steps You Can Take if You or Someone You Love is in Danger:
1. Reach out for help – Speak with a trusted friend, counselor, pastor, or advocate.
2. Create a safety plan – Know where you can go, what essentials to pack, and who you can call.
3. Document incidents – Keep records, messages, or photos if safe to do so.
4. Call for immediate help – If in danger, dial 911. For confidential support, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text “START” to 88788.
💜 This month, let’s be a voice for the voiceless, spread awareness, and remind survivors: You are not alone. Healing and freedom are possible.
