🎭WHAT IS NARCISSISM? DSM VS SPIRITUALLY 😈

When we look at narcissism, we must understand it from two perspectives: clinically and Biblically.
🔹 According to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) Narcissistic Personality Disorder is characterized by traits such as:
Grandiosity (an inflated sense of self-importance)
Constant need for admiration
Lack of empathy
Exploiting relationships for personal gain
Envy of others or belief others are envious of them
Arrogant or haughty behaviors
While everyone can demonstrate these qualities at times, especially in survival modes, narcissism is on a spectrum & a true narcissist is demonstrated by pathological, intentional patterns of exploitation, manipulation, entitlement, & hostility (even if covert).
🔹 According to Scripture:
While the word “narcissist” itself does not appear in the Bible, the description of the spirit behind it does.
👉 2 Timothy 3:1-5 warns:
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people."
This is a clear biblical description of narcissism—self-centeredness, pride, and selfishness, which is the very opposite of the Spirit of Christ.
💡 Spiritually: Narcissism is tied to the "reprobate mind" (Romans 1:28), a mindset turned over because of rejecting God’s truth. It is fueled by pride, rebellion, and deception—a counterfeit spirit rising in the last days.
🚨 Characteristics of Narcissism Spiritually
Lovers of self
Lovers of money and pleasure rather than God
Prideful and arrogant
Lacking empathy or natural affection
Manipulative and exploitative
False accusers (gaslighters)
Religious but without true godliness
🙏 What To Do About It as Overcomers in Him:
Scripture doesn’t call us to fight people but to discern and stand against the spirit behind them.
To guard our hearts and families.
Boundaries: Protect your peace and refuse to be manipulated.
No Contact / Gray Rock: Limit or remove access when dealing with unrepentant abusers.
Truth & Faith: Anchor yourself in God’s Word, which exposes lies.
Discernment: Ask the Holy Spirit daily for wisdom.
Nurture the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23): Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the antidotes to narcissism’s destruction.
Pray for Deliverance: Cover your family, home, and relationships in prayer.
Be Wise as Serpents & Innocent as Doves (Matthew 10:16):
Understand how the enemy operates, but remain pure in heart, walking in the Spirit of Christ.
⚠️ Those who complain about the growing awareness of narcissism and try to silence or gaslight survivors are often resisting God’s call for exposure of this evil spirit. Scripture already tells us this spirit will grow stronger in the last days, but Yahweh is raising up His Overcomers to stand against it.
🌿 As Overcomers in Him, we are not victims of narcissism—we are victorious & Overcomers in Christ. We walk in discernment, truth, and love, protecting our hearts and families while remaining steadfast in faith.
✨ Final Word:
Narcissism is more than a disorder—it is a last-days spirit of pride and selfishness. But as we stay rooted in God’s Word, nurture the fruits of the Spirit, and apply godly wisdom, we will not only discern it but overcome it.
